Here are 2 possibilities: 1. Insert them into a.docx first, then copy/paste into your.doc. Use Insert-Object-From File. You have limited facilities for manipulating these images in a.doc - AFAICS the only thing you can do with them is convert between 'in-line' and 'floating' images, and resize them.
MS PowerPoint. Possibly an Image Editing Program such as. Under Save As file type, scroll down and choose JEP File Interchange Format (*.jpg). If there is a table on a website, it is no longer in table form in word. If there is an image, that too is also not copied. The only alternative I have found is to save a web page as a pdf in order to retain formatting (tables, images, links etc).
If they are floating, you get a 'format Picture' option, but to get any further with that, you also have to change the document format to.docx (the dialog box is a bit ambiguous - you could get the idea that it needs to change the.image. format). Which insertion process were you using? (several have been mentioned) I tried to replicate this by using the 'Insert-Object' approach I suggested. However, after inserting 18 pictures I didn't see any problems, and after saving as HTML I was able to see all the images. I can see all the.png files exported to the.fld folder. However, - I am now on the 15.32 'Slow Insider' build of Word, which may not be the same as yours (you should check for updates anyway) and/or - Perhaps there is some kind of memory or file size limit that you have encountered and I have not (yet).
My guess from your description is that you are going to continue to see this problem once you have inserted more than a certain number of pictures whichever way you do the insertion. But, after 13 pictures (say), what happens if you a. Save the document before proceeding?
Save, close and re-open the document before proceeding? Save the document, close Word and re-open the document before proceeding? Try to insert the pictures into a new document, then insert one document into the other? Do you still get the 'missing photos' after a certain point, either in the.doc or the exported filtered web page? Personally I wouldn't want to have to do any of those things or even have to use the Insert-Object procedure, but I guess if you have to use.doc format your options are limited.
I use v15.31 The file size for Kindle (which is what I'm creating) is over 600mb, and my file is less than 20. I've been inserting pictures from file.
As you suggested, I just tried closing the file and reopening. Now the file is somehow only saved as web page, not web page filtered - and all the images have now vanished. I've tried: removing all images - saving with a new file name - adding images again same result. Blank.png images in the.fld file. If they are blank there, they are not seen in Kindle previewer. I have no idea why the process started working, and no idea why it stopped working.
Any other suggestions on things I can try? I appreciate you putting so much time into this. I have been given a very specific set of instructions by KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing): This Help page highlights a number of tools and techniques for publishing via a Mac operating system: When you save your Word file as HTML (Web Page (.htm)), a separate HTML file and a separate folder containing all your images is created in the same location on your computer.
To 'ZIP' the HTML content file and image folder together: 1. Select both the content file and the image folder by pressing the Ctrl key and clicking on both. Once the files are selected, right-click on one of the highlighted files and select 'Send to' 3.
Select 'Compressed(Zipped) folder' After confirming your files are in this zipped folder, upload it to KDP, then verify that the images appear correctly in the previewer before publishing your book. The following Help page will also explain you how to save your file as a ZIP file: Below are some general guidelines to follow when creating image books in Word: - Format images in high resolution.
Your total book file must be under 650MB. Individual images should be the highest resolution possible - Insert images, don't copy and paste - Align images to the center of the document - Remove all empty line/page breaks between each image - If images are schemas, charts, tables, maps, or any format that includes text, save the image in GIF format to ensure the text is legible after conversion You may also scan and insert images into your DOC file to create your image book, as long as the guidelines above are adhered to. To learn more on formatting your Kindle content, visit our Kindle Publishing Guidelines here: Chapter 9.4 will give you more information about images in your book.
I was told by several of their people to use web page, filtered. And some said not to. Ive tried both, and at this point every other conceivable combination, but nothing works. Some versions allow me to insert jpgs, but they do not appear in the Kindle preview app. Their tech people have had this for four days without any communication to say they've made progress. When calling up I'm just told they can't figure it out. You would think, in the year 2017, two of the biggest tech companies in human history would be able to get images to stick in a Word document.
The kicker, is that to a point, the process was working. I got half the images in, then hit the wall. So I'm still at square one. Any other thoughts are most welcome. The excruciating this is that there is no way to do the book without the images. They are integral.
And so many people have asked for the Kindle version that I can't ignore those guys either. This has to get fixed. It is indeed exasperating that something that really ought to be quite straightforward is instead filled with pitfalls. I am also running out of ideas, but here is what I have: a. What happens if you actually start from.docx, and export to Web Page, Filtered?
Do you end up with the pictures in an unhelpful format or is there some other downside? (I haven't tried recently, sorry). Does it make any difference if you reduce the image resolution in Word-Preferences-General-Web Options-Pictures, or disallow saving as.png? Can some other free WP software such as Libre Office produce the right format?
What about trying to produce the general 'shape' of the document using Word, then creating the folder of image files manually and editing the.html file manually in a text editor, pointing the elements to the correct files and modifying the relevant size information oin the.html? I think that might actually be quite easy if all the original pictures are the same size.and. they need to be the same size in the document. For example, even without 'unlinking' all the images, the INCLUDEPICTURE approach I suggested should generate a file with links to all the original.jpgs (or whatever). If you first put all the jpgs in a single folder that you can ZIP up with your.html file,.then.
make the links, you should end up with pretty much the structure you need. AIUI Kindle Direct Publisher limits the total file size to 650MB and each image file to 5MB so you would need to stick within those limitations. A pain, but perhaps it can get you where you need to go. A) If I start with a.docx file which has all the images inserted from file - and then save as web page, filtered. Which is what they ask me to do, I get this: Saving BK for Pegan.docx in this format (Web Page, Filtered ) will remove Office-specific tags.
Some Office features may not be available when you reopen this page. Do you want to save the document in this format?. To save, click Yes.
To preserve formatting, click No. Then save the document in Web Page format (HTML). B) The image resolution is at its lowest permissible level, as per their instructions. C) No other WP software gives me the control I need for creating documents.
And also, KDP always stress that they want MS Word documents. D) This again goes way outside the strict instructions they have given me.
No one can seem to get why the images will not properly stick once inserted from file. I have tried the workflow in many orders, but so far - nothing. UPDATE - They asked me to send a.docx file which contains all the images. They then told me that there are no images in the file, and can I please send a file containing the images!!!
As if that is not the problem I have had all along. I just sent them a pdf which shows that the images are in the file. Is there some other detail in the process that I could be missing? It seems simple - format the images correctly, then insert them from file.
Print Save as pdf upload. I don't see that there are other steps.
So something in this basic process is not working, for reasons unknown. KDP often complain that mac is not ideal for this.
But JCA, in this day and age? How can it not work?
